Busy, Busy Comics Weekend!

Enjoying a nice busy spell at the moment so apologies for not posting updates on recent Brecon and SALUTE events which were both very enjoyable as I've been preparing for another pair of events this Bank Holiday Weekend.

First up is a welcome return to Scott's comic shop in Warrington Market, Scott's Pop's & Comics for the annual Free Comic Book Day event! It's a fun celebration of comics, graphic novels and the talented creators behind them with this year an amazing seven guests - here's a wee clue who they are but see his page for full details!

It's a Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK which means a bonus day off for many folk but rather than wash the car or mow the grass I'll be showcasing my comics in the rather wonderful Victorian Pavilion Gardens for Buxton Comic-Con! This will be my second appearance following last November's enjoyable trip - see details & pics here, so looking forward to it.

I wonder how this chap spends his Bank Holidays....

P.S I've even been working on something new!

ZULUS in Warrington!

With everything going on I forgot to let you know that my ZULU:Water Cart Rescue graphic novel is  available at Scott's comic shop in Warrington, Cheshire; Scott's Pop's & Comics in both standard (£12) and signed 'n' sketched print packs (£15) (plus applicable postage).

The above photos were taken on their first day in store and their prominent display attracted a lot of attention as they've now almost gone - Santa and quite a few folk were giving these as Christmas presents this year to the Zulu fans in their families!

Don't worry though, we're arranging a restock so if you're local, why not pop in for a browse or if further afield, message Scott through his Facebook page or leave a message below and we'll take it from there :)

Thanks for everyone's support and interest and don't forget, Channel 4 are showing the movie that started it all this Sunday afternoon, New Year's Eve!

Free Comic Book Day Returns!

Delighted to be returning to Scott's shop tomorrow as part of his great line-up of comic artists's for this year's Free Comic Book Day - delayed by a week to avoid the coronation clash.

This will be Scott's third event, (showing how quickly time flies), and one that previously has been a joyful celebration of comics, mainstream and independent, putting the spotlight on local creators who are involved in comic making across the genres whether humour, autobiographical, fantasy, historical or adventure. Showing the diversity and versatility of the comics medium.

If you have time please pop in and check out the cool artists and the range of this year's annual free comics, there really is something for everyone and you won't have to pay a penny unless you are tempted by the many other comics, sketches and goodies on offer!

2022 Comic Event Season Taking Shape!

Aha, well it's taken a wee while and sadly, already had a couple of false starts with cancelled and postponed events but finally the 2022 events season is taking shape!

It's pretty certain that my first event won't now be until May with the (normally) annual Free Comic Book Day event where I'll be joining a small but perfectly formed line-up of talented comic artists & writers at my favourite comic shop, Scott's Pop's & Comics in Warrington!

Last year's delayed event in August was a blast, real fun with a mad couple of hours as, after a quietish start, word got out and Scott's wee shop and invited artists were mobbed by a curious and engaged public, all hungry to discover new comics. It was a welcome relief from the lockdown stresses and for most of us, artists and attendess alike, the first event since 2019!

Time to produce a few more Comic packs?

Please keep and eye on the FCBD participants website to check out if your local comic shop has any plans and if you're anywhere close to Warrington, Scott's facebook page will post further details leading up to the event to tempt you along!

Further details of confirmed events to follow :)

Comics Elevator Pitch Challenge!

Okay lots of comic madness these last few days, a fun and happy Warrington Comics Market and London's MCM Comic-Con now a very happy blur, see Dave's timely report here. I'm now busy organising for our next convention appearance in Aberdeen at the first Granite City Comic-Con this weekend, followed closely by our regular Danish appearance at the Copenhagen Comics Festival....phew!

In meantime see me put on the spot by Barry of the BBC featured Geek Syndicate who challenged me to an elevator pitch for Stephenson's Robot #1, not an easy thing to do and one that Dave was only to eager to volunteer me for! I was given a minute...

New Comic Market Show added!

Jings, no sooner are we back from enjoyable and successful trips to Birmingham and Belfast (and see Dave's timely reports for both here and here!) with our comics crew than we've added another local show for next Saturday at The inaugural Warrington Market Comic-Con!

This show has been spoken about for a little while but gathered pace on our return from Belfast so all quite exciting. I understand that its part of the Council's regular initiative's to spotlight the market which is soon to be fully refurbished.

So if you are in the area next Saturday you can pop down to enjoy, among other attractions, a life size Star Wars X-Wing Fighter (really!), Back To The Future's De Lorean Car (great Scott!), a real walking talking Robot, several comic and memorabilia stalls and the Accent UK team! It's on from 10 am to 4 pm in the Market Hall and, weather permitting, outside, free entry!

The convention season is really underway now as Warrington will be the first of four consecutive shows taking in London, Aberdeen and Copenhagen so nice perhaps to start with something local!
